Grundon Waste Management commission new clinical/hazardous incinerator
In November 2006 Grundon Waste Management Ltd start commissioning their new clinical and hazardous waste incinerator at Colnbrook near Heathrow. The facility has been built to replace the clinical incinerator that had to be closed earlier this year, to make space for the construction of the 440 thousand tonne per annum Energy From Waste facility at Colnbrook.
The new clinical incinerator has been built about 100 yards from the old plant and has enabled Grundon to construct a facility that incorporates all the design improvements learnt from operating the old incinerator for over 15 years.
Built to a Grundon design, the facility has a projected capacity in the region of 10,000 tonnes per annum and incorporates enhanced gas clean up equipment to enable the facility to destroy more difficult types of clinical/hazardous waste and still meet the stringent emissions standards stipulated in the IPC authorisation.
The facility is authorised to accept a wide range of hazardous waste in addition to clinical, pharmaceutical and radioactive waste.
