Eurocare Environmental Services Ltd plead guilty to 10 offences.

April 28, 2003

Non-member Eurocare Environmental Services Ltd admitted a total of 10 separate charges relating to their plants at Wrexham, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Birmingham including conducting an illegal clinical waste transfer operation and deposit of waste on land without a licence. Evidence was brought in court of blood leaking from trailers used to store and transport clinical waste, and polluting a tributary of the River Dee in north Wales with blood and urine from its incinerator at Wrexham. Wrexham Magistrates considered the maximum fine they could impose (£170,000) insufficient and referred the case to Chester Crown Court where the company was eventually fined £100,000 and agreed to pay £115,000 costs.
