Cliniserve Ltd

Operating throughout the South, Cliniserve Ltd has grown rapidly during the past 3 years. The company specialises in hygiene services and collection and disposal of clinical, ‘sanpro’ and pharmaceutical wastes.

Founded in 1929 S. Grundon (Waste) Ltd is the largest privately owned waste management group in Britain. In addition to recycling and recovery facilities, collection, and landfill operations, the company operates collection and high temperature incineration facilities for clinical waste.

The SMDSA has granted NHS Estates Honourary membership as part of an initiative for closer co-operation in the development of higher and more consistent standards across the industry. Initially, Brian Latham will represent the interests of the NHS during the drafting of the Common Working Plan (see main article).

SMDSA member PHS Group has accelerated their growth with further progress on the acquisitions trail. Following a series of acquisitions over the past few years including former SMDSA member Southalls, the pace has been increased this year with the addition/absorption of the clinical and washroom contracts of Lines & Jones Ltd and Terminix (February); Universal Hygiene Ltd (March); Automatic Hygiene Services and Dee Ess Direct Supplies (April); Personnel Hygiene Services (Northern Ireland) Ltd (formerly a franchise) (May) and DOOP Services during June.

Radical changes have been proposed to amend the Special Waste Regulations. Consultation responses to the proposed changes were due back to the DETR as this publication went to press.
